If you will be out of town or unable to get to the polls between 7:00am and 8:00pm on September 16th, you may apply for and vote by absentee ballot. The deadline to apply for an absentee ballot is Monday, September 15, 2008 at noon. How to apply? Stop by in person or send a family member in to the Town Clerk's Office to apply on your behalf. You may also mail us an
application or simple request (with original signature) asking for an absentee ballot. We need to know your name, voting address and party preference for the primary if you are an Unenrolled voter. If you are not registered in the Democratic, Republican, Green-Rainbow or Working Families party and are not Unenrolled, then you are not eligible to participate in the State Primaries.
What exactly does Unenrolled mean? Unenrolled voters used to be referred to as Independent voters, which means that you are a voter who has not declared party affiliation. Unenrolled voters may participate the Primary of their choosing without becoming a member of that party.
The deadline to register to vote or change your party affiliation for this Primary is Wednesday, August 27th at 8:00pm. You may register to vote or change party affiliation at any Town or City Clerk's office in the Commonwealth and your registration is effective the day you appear at that office. You may also register by mail, but the registration must be post marked by August 27th.
If you are 17 but will will be 18 years old by September 16th, then you may register to vote for the Primary while you are still 17, but must do so by August 27th.
